The Music Substitute

My natural voice range is alto. I can sing higher for short bursts, but it is painful.

My Church calling is seminary teacher, which is not a Sunday job! Just every school day!

Today I subbed for talented soprano-voice-of-an-angel Jeannette. I told her "You owe me" and then had to repent. She's the bishop's wife.

It was a joyous day in Primary with the children.

I started out with the oldest composer: Mozart. Page 161 of the Children's Songbook has a sweet short tune that perfectly summed up my hope for all of them this year. (Click on the link and the big grey arrow at the top left of the page to hear it! It is going to be a good linking year!) I asked the pianist to ONLY play the alto part as we learned the words, had them stand up, talked about what a pledge is, why this song matters.

I learned that the same composer who wrote "Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel" also wrote "Softly & Tenderly." I linked here to a Johnny Cash version. The first time I remember crying to that song was at the end of "A Trip to Bountiful" film.
