From Bear Lake we went north to see family history sites:

THIS is the house in the family photo!  Just down the street from the historical museum where we saw more family evidence (John's side).

Spending time with my Utah children (all Emma+Dean photos are on good camera, downloading soon) was my favorite part of trip.

Seeing our home in Bettendorf, well-cared for, smaller than I remember...

My Sophmore year BYU house (where I lived when I met John).

Next house I lived in basement apartment (when John & I put in mission papers).

We lived up Hobble Creek Canyon at Bradford's farm guest home, then Grandma Carlson's basement Springville apartment, then here on 2nd floor window on left of entry, in our first married apartment in Provo (Emma's 1st b-day video filmed on that front lawn!).

Blessing of a duplex $100.00/month rent where we lived with 3 children (on right side) now for sale!

Painting from 1990 when I was a new mom-student-artist at BYU, in collection of Deborah Koehler. I was surprised at  how it brought back the emotions of being a new mom, the confusion, the love, the "cuteness" and the unending soberness of caring for the health of a newborn.  Rabbits were my favorite animal growing up.

Suzu is Home!

Welcome home, Suzanna! It is hard to come home after a year away at college, back to parents with opinions about how to spend your time and $. We are proud of her hard work and pleased of her kindness and service.

Emma is a Chemistry Teacher!

This Ezra Taft Benson building is important in our daughter's life.

Good teachers (photo in Fishbowl, Benson bdg), good education...

And she met DJ here, in this lab room:

...because this secretary made him take the lab Emma was in, not the one for his major.

Now she is a full time high school chemistry teacher,

and deliriously happy!

 

Saying Good-Bye

Squeezy hugs.   Max gives good hugs.  Affectionate, sweet young man.  I will miss his voice, singing, punning, praising, joking.

Max & Emma leave next Tuesday for school.  Grandpa John & Grandma Sandy are leaving Saturday for the ocean, so this was it.  Good-bye until Christmas. 

It is nice living so close to extended family, so they become a part of our lives.  We know them,  they know our children.

Grandma Sandy has a swath of purple in her fringe, not for Ravens, but for City Council elections, coming up in 80 days.  Her campaign signs are purple.  We will pull out our purple grandma t-shirts, walk the neighborhoods for her, put up signs.  Emma has been designing and creating Grandma's webpage.  Coding & set up.  All the technical stuff.  I am so impressed with my brilliant daughter!

Welcome to BYU-Provo for Maxwell! This is him, wearing the $1.50 Banana Republic floral GUY'S shirt I found at the thrift store, and clicking "YES" he will attend in the fall!
Front door with sheer IKEA fabric curtain cut and fabric starched to glass door. Soak or spray the starch onto the fabric, smooth onto surface. Works on smooth walls, too, and holds. Great way to change a wall/window if you are renting and can't paint. I once covered a whole powder room with giant popcorn fabric! Loved that.

Another pattern for Debs. Contemporary/retro feel. Great geometry. Easily transform a huge mirror with this painted or wood overlay look to modernize.
