Freely pursuing
Happiness thanks to soldiers'
Red blood paid for me

Fighting to protect
Rights of our fathers and moms
Now youth needs to know

Promised Land of God
Protected by His wide arm
Peaceful if we love

I see the flag wave
Heart swells with passion and love
Protect the promised

Fireworks remind
Smoke and guns and battle cry
Death then party now

Celebrate the flag
Count your blessings one by one
Cheer for liberty

I shall call this land
"This Land" and make it special
Dear above all else

Flagpole defiant
Lofty banner raised higher
Stretched for all to see

Halloween Haikus Tell You More

A cemetery?
Decorative spider web?
Cobwebs here are real!

Do I answer door
Or pretend to be in bed
Porch light flickers off

Choc'late bought on sale
Bags and bags of hidden sin
Mr. Hyde me now!

I have a quilting buddy, Gyleen, who consistently challenges us to create haikus on a chosen theme. I am thankful for all my creative brilliant friends who keep those around them energized and pushing boundaries. Thank you to you all.

And here starts a month of Thankfulness! For the next month I will blog-highlight something that inspires me, and people I have learned from and appreciate, not in any particular order.

Haiku 5-7-5

I have a famous quilting buddy, Gyleen,

who, every so often challenges us. Quilt challenges, word challenges. Her latest: haikus starting with "If" first line and "Then" second line, third line the punch. Here is what I wrote this morning.

If I just quilted
Then neglected family
Would learn how to cook!

If I swam all day
Then my fat would fade faster
Get a new swimsuit!

If sniffs were colors
Then your breath’d be purple
Strong sweet lollipop

If I were your age
Then had my experience
I would worry less

If you love me true
Then you will tell me quickly
Where is the chocolate?

If God could send help
Then you would be His first choice
Angels abound here

If whispers could crawl
Then shouts would run marathons
And singing would dance

If it All Matters
Then you have a purpose here
