Mr. Pete (TALENTS)

Mr. Harold Peterson, Highland High School art teacher, told us art students "Once people find out that you know how to do lettering, you will be doing it for the rest of your life..." He warned us that people would ask us to do posters, calligraphy certificates, window signs, you name it.

Vinyl lettering, computers, and scrap booking stickers has given more people lettering skills, so the demand has gone down, but every once in awhile, there is still the need.

I like having artistic talents. Grandpa John asked me to make a sign for the birthday celebration Saturday night...
And it comes in handy when making homemade gifts.

Dear _______,

I wish I could shower you with everything you needed to have a happy home: all the kitchen gadgets, tools, bath accessories, blankets, artwork that would make your home comfortable and beautiful.

The best advice I can give you: live within your means. Be united, no matter how much money you have. Consider everything “ours” instead of “mine” and “his.” Pay tithing. Pray for miracles, and I know your prayers will be answered!

It might mean you end up giving homemade love gifts, instead of what you really wish you could shower a loved one with when they get MARRIED!

Congratulations!

Hugs & Kisses,

Jennilyn

Thank you to "Pete" for teaching me lettering skills, so I could freehand these, no cheating. I am thankful for all the art teachers in my life. Thankful, too, for the examples of sharing talents. You use it, and share it, or you lose it.

Talent Show

I wasn't on stage--just hung quilts.
Included: my very VERY first quilt. Patchwork--sort of. Scraps from my mother's matching pajama-sewing projects. I loved "Little House on the Prairie" and tried to make a quilt for my doll with squares, just raw-edge appliqueing them down on a folded background. I was 9. My almost 9 year old daughter Roxie thinks it is pretty cool (maybe she just wonders that I was ever young, like her?)!
When Stewart had much smaller feet he walked in gold paint over this quilt (on purpose, with coaching and a reward) honoring our Pioneer ancestors!

Purple silky and fleece raw edge ruffle baby quilt for a shower gift. I did a running stitch on the inside ruffle and sewed down the outer one, so it looked gathered, more in control; pulled lots of strings off. Hopefully it will wash up smoother, kind of a shabby-chic thing going for a purple princess!
