What's For Dinner?

Twenty years ago when we first moved to Maryland, a quilting buddy took me to Farmer Knopp's Vegetable Stand.
Keeps you honest, putting your quarters in a locked box with nobody watching.
Beautiful day to be in rural Harford County!
His driveway is lined with flowers and I was fascinated with all the butterflies!

No, Not French Fries

Squinting from a distance it looks like a fast food potato snack. Look closer. It is a "W" for WELL! This is a get well quilt block for a quilter. Notice my right side addition to make my square regulation-requested size. Oops. Didn't notice until after all my machine applique. My rotary cutting board is buried, so I ripped with a tape measure.

John still needs to blog about my dislike of searching for things.

He is glad we found each other young.

Deadlines

Yes, I am thankful for schedules, deadlines, time frames that encourage participation, concentration, application. It helps me prioritize when I have deadlines.

This quilt was made because of a "So You Think You Can Quilt" deadline (but it didn't have to be quilted) and then finished due to a different group deadline- Flying Geese Quilt Guild show.

Company coming creates a deadline. Returning college kids, another deadline.

I get lots of things done, just in time. Deadlines are reassuring, helping me know when something needs to happen. How much time I can spare until the crunch.

I just wish deadlines had another name. Alive-Lines. Due date. Goal. No-more-stalling day.

Un-Finished Objects

Quilters talk about their UFO's often. I have a few...too many, probably. This is a small sampling--black and white blocks that my Lassies-Faire are helping me complete (two blocks on far left are first installment). The baskets are from the Wild Threads small group, part of the Flying Geese Quilt Guild I am in.

I've spent a week of training for a new job. Acronyms can be silly or fun or even worse than just saying what it is. The 2nd day I took some handwork to do on breaks (I am a fast reader). Usually I prefer machine piecing because of the efficient speed and the excitement of seeing a finished block quickly. But if you know you will have time to sit for awhile, hand-work is nice. HWIN

I have been concentrating on finishing some Obligation Blocks. Duty-Friendship Blocks. Finish And Then Do Own Work, Start Now While I Have Time, Must Arrange To Do Today, Need Something For My Hands To Do Or I Will Go Crazy With Boredom, Sit And Listen Sewing, Calming And Diverting-work:

OB, DFB, FATDOW, SNWIHT, MATDT, NSFMHTDOIWGCWB, SALS, CAD

Last night (while eating delicate Meyer-Lemon and Raspberry bars) with 2/3 of John's sisters and his parents we talked about texting, Twitter. Sara mentioned the irony of historically going from smoke signals and short, abbr. communication, to elaborate documents, full speech, telephone, faxing, email, and back to texting with abbr. short messages...John dislikes strongly the lack of content. No form, he says.

But he is a man of words. He loves pure communication.
