Mother's Day-Utah trip Catch-Up & Some Murals & Quilts

Sister Suzanna Landbeck in Gaia, Portugal, got to Skype with us on Mother's Day!  Here are our traditional photos with Me-MOM on Mother's Day!

I got to go on a quick trip to Utah---helping a friend drive out (she was moving there) and she paid my plane ticket back, making the deal very attractive.  A chance to see family during the school year for Emma---

And to see Stewart at work (160 North University, Provo)

He made me his favorite shake:  banana pudding and Nutella.  Delicious!

Pudding is put on the bottom, swirled around, shake poured on top, so separate flavors, almost like a pie...

I spent time Saturday on temple square--usually people take just a photo of the Christus statue, but I focused on the great mural.

After our session, Deborah & I walked around temple square searching for the most modest & beautiful wedding dress.  There were 49 weddings just on Mom's shift, so we had lots to choose from.  See my instagram account for details (look up jennilandbeck and follow me there!).

Back at Mom & Dad's I took pictures of some of Mom's artwork rescued from the attic and now hanging up in their home.

Dad really likes this one.  He calls this one Upraised Woman (?)--correct me, Dad.  Mom painted in acrylic while we lived in San Jose, CA.

 All with the understanding that if he had a show of all his artwork, we would gladly gather the paintings at whatever venue.  It is nice to have so much talent in the family and no blank empty walls.

Did you know: (Quilt-Like Art)

This painting/collage intrigued me, hanging upstairs in BYU's Art Museum, famous pop-artist  Jann Haworth, who according to Wikipedia "... won a fellowship in 1997 to study American quilt-making. She returned to the United States and took up residence in Sundance, Utah,"

 

How did I miss her SLC Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band mural in downtown SLC?   Next trip, a MUST see!

Utah Art Favorites

If you are in UTAH right now, I highly suggest you go down to the BYU art gallery, north of the HFAC, all the way to the basement to see this exhibit:

Loved this painting:  on route 89 Springville, UT framing shop/gallery on west side of road before you get to library.

 

He does great angels, religious themes...

And there is something about seeing them in person, the textures, the SIZE

Finishing Turtle Ohana

It still needs a protective coat of polyurethane, and the room is finished.  Signature easier to see in the closet mirror, on the right.

In Progress Update

Monochromatic Turtle Nursery

Hawaiin Green Sea Turtle, filling in slowly...baby turtles hatching and headed to sea on the far left.

Plumeria/frangapini tree almost done.

I am not showing you the unfinished banana tree and the sad palm tree that I need to concentrate on tomorrow.  Sometimes it is important to just know when to stop.

One of my favorite things to do after painting for 5 hours is to stop at a thrift store on the way home.  I feel crazy in my painting clothes, and watch to see how people react to me.  The paint is dry (on my clothes) but it looks really messy.  Found 3 pairs of long shorts for Sam and a Coleman lantern for Pioneer Trek, so worth the stop!.

How Big Could I Get?

Another great outdoor mural from Philadelphia, on Race Street, just down from John's hotel.

When I come home exhausted after 8 hours straight of painting, I think about bigger walls, more paint, more work, seen from distance problems...This is my dream, to do a HUGE outdoor side-of-building mural!

Meanwhile, the elementary school has a 20 foot long wall. And the new volunteer fire hall has a two-story stairwell that faces the street. BIG indoor projects, both pro-bono work.

Stewart went to the dentist, the last thing for him to complete before he can turn in his mission paperwork. Five cavities. $700 out of pocket. It would be cheaper to fly him home here and send him to the dental school (they treat under 20 free) to get them filled. We have yet to figure out what to do. Max joked wondering if Stewart hasn't brushed his teeth since going to college?
